Impact of Fuel Type on Toxic Emissions from a Non-premixed Boundary Layer Laminar Flame in Microgravity – A Numerical Study

چکیده
Examples from non-premixed boundary combustion representative of fire in microgravity environment are presented. A low forced flow 0.25 m/s is present, which typical air circulation speeds a spacecraft. The numerical simulations have been conducted to evaluate the modes heat transfer with an emphasis on discussion about effects various fuels chemical emissions such as soot, CO, CO2 and unburnt hydrocarbons reduced-gravity conditions. Typically, evaporation temperature smaller for heptane than dodecane, thus lengthening flame seems more pronounced compared that dodecane increase visible zone by factor 2.3 times. rapid regression rate due enhanced feedback contributes additional energy 80% release dodecane. In all cases, only 15% generated exothermic reaction supplied pyrolysis surface, large portion convected forward gas flow. CO molar fraction reaches maximum 11% 8% other ethylene, propane, propylene heptane. mean value concentration depends mainly fuel injection rate, appears practically insensitive oxidizer velocity. Dodecane longer carbon chain produces less propane propylene. existence toxic even size because absence natural convection has important considerations spacecraft safety smoke/gas incapacitation.

Interactions between soot and CH in a laminar boundary layer type diffusion flame in microgravity
A three-dimensional laminar non-buoyant diffusion flame was studied with the objective of improving the understanding of the soot production. The flame originated from a porous ethylene burner discharging into a laminar boundary layer. Soot volume fractions were measured using Laser-Induced Incandescence (LII) and the spontaneous emission from CH∗ was determined using chemiluminescence. The mai...
متن کاملApproximate solution of laminar thermal boundary layer over a thin plate heated from below by convection
In this paper, an integration of a symbolic power series method - Padé approximation technique (PS - Padé), was utilized to solve a system of nonlinear differential equations arising from the similarity solution of laminar thermal boundary layer over a flat plate subjected to a convective surface boundary condition. As both boundary conditions tended to infinity, the combination of series solut...
متن کاملA Numerical Study of Cool Flame Development under Microgravity
The existence and spatial development of hydrocarbon cool flames in a spherical vessel under the influence of mass and thermal diffusion have been investigated by numerical methods. The purpose is to examine the nature of the interaction of the physics and chemistry that may drive an oscillatory reaction. The conditions correspond to those that would be experienced at zero gravity, as has been ...
